I like to think I've developed a small reputation on my socials for being the person that asks everyone what was on their Spotify wrapped.
And whether or not other people think of me during that season for being that guy is kind of irrelevant because
And even though I mostly try to stay away from apps like Facebook if I can help it, with that app deleted from my phone most of the time, Spotify Wrapped was definitely an occasion that would get me to redownload for just long enough to ask everyone what was on theirs and see the responses before dipping again.
And it was one part genuinely wanting to know what everyone got, one part secretly hoping people would ask me about mine, and one part adding a voice against the common cynical sentiment I’d see all the time “No one cares about your Spotify Wrapped” which for me was just blatantly untrue.
And so now in 2025 that I've unsubscribed from Spotify, do I feel differently about this?
Well, no not really.
I guess what I really want is for people to continue being or to begin being open about their interests. If sharing your Spotify/Apple/whatever Wrapped later this year is your way of doing that, then I'll take it
But if you're like me and are not subscribed to any major music streaming platforms*, still tell me about what you've been listening to! Hell, don't wait till your year in review in November/December, but I understand if it makes for a natural segue to the topic. I mostly just want to know what everyone's up to.
*I technically still have a subscription to Nintendo Music and that is not going unused lol
